Ma al processo viene fuori tutta un’altra verità, figlia del perbenismo e del pregiudizio verso il diverso ◆ La recensione di BATTISTA GARDONCINI *► Senza troppa pubblicità, e con una distribuzione così così, “Cattiverie a domicilio”, della regista inglese Thea Sharrock, ha incassato in Italia oltre un milione di euro. Un risultato niente affatto scontato per un film basato su una piccola storia vera, avvenuta nell’Inghilterra perbenista appena uscita dalla prima guerra mondiale. A Littlehampton, un paesino della costa, la signorina Edith Swan, zitella tutta casa e chiesa, riceve lettere anonime infamanti e infarcite di coloriti insulti. Inesorabile, la macchina della giustizia porta Rose in carcere, ma non tutti sono convinti della sua colpevolezza. E al processo, grazie anche a una nuova tecnica di indagine basata sull’analisi della scrittura, viene fuori tutta un’altra verità.Thea Sharrock si è formata artisticamente nel Sudafrica in lotta contro l’apartheid, e in questo film affronta il tema non meno pesante del pregiudizio e del sospetto nei confronti del diverso. Ma lo fa con mano leggera, aiutata dalla sceneggiatura spumeggiante di Jonni Sweet e da un gruppo di attori di grande bravura. Olivia Colman è Edith, oppressa dal padre padrone Edward, che ha il volto intenso di Timothy Spall. Jessie Buckley è Rose, mentre Anjana Vasan interpreta la poliziotta Gladys Moss, che continua caparbia ad indagare contro il volere dei superiori, desiderosi di chiudere un caso che nel frattempo, complici i giornali, è diventato una questione nazionale. Tutti sono attori con una vasta esperienza teatrale, perfettamente a loro agio in un film dove le sfumature, i volti e i piccoli tic sono fondamentali. Ma questo non significa che in “Cattiverie a domicilio” non accada nulla. Anche se non muore nessuno, si resta con il fiato sospeso dall’inizio alla fine, e ci si diverte.
