Un'ora di lavoro del Supercomputer Leonardo dentro al Tecnopolo di Bologna, equivale a quello che un normale computer portatile è in grado di fare in 920 anni senza mai fermarsi. E' quasi impossibile da immaginare. Non lo è per le migliaia di aziende e università che ogni giorno lo utilizzano da oltre un anno e mezzo per le applicazioni più svariate: dalla medicina all'osservazione della terra, dalla fisica delle particelle alle smart cities, dalle previsioni meteo allo sviluppo di muovi materiali. Lo ha spiegato il presidente del Cineca, Francesco Ubertini, in occasione della riunione ministeriale del Gruppo dei 7 su scienza e tecnologia a Bologna. "E' una grande opportunità per spingere avanti la frontiera della ricerca in svariati campi, ma anche per fare innovazione cioè portare la ricerca dai laboratori delle università e farla diventare prodotto, farla entrare nel mercato. In una fase storica come quella in cui viviamo dove nuove tecnologie come l'intelligenza artificiale o le tecnologie quantistiche, due temi che sono stati toccati dai ministri durante il meeting del G7, stanno rivoluzionando la nostra società", ha sottolineato Ubertini.Al momento circa il 70% degli utenti proviene dal mondo della ricerca e il 30% sono imprese e start-up che vogliono fare innovazione. "Noi abbiamo delle call sempre aperte di varia taglia - ha aggiunto Ubertini -. Chi vuol accedere per attività di ricerca e innovazione sottomette un progetto: a quelli che vengono valutati positivamente vengono allocate le risorse. Se i progetti vengono messi a disposizione della comunità, le risorse sono allocate gratuitamente". Dare accelerazione, attirare nuovi talenti e formare i professionisti del futuro. La macchina funziona al 100% e presto avrà una sorella, "Lisa" in onore di Monna Lisa. Ormai pronte altre due macchine quantistiche. Una macchina di nuova generazione - 10 volte più potente di Leonardo - è pronta a essere realizzata, con due anni di anticipo rispetto alle previsioni."La spinta tecnologica e l'impatto che questa ha nell'industria ma nella società in generale, anche per le grandi sfide che l'umanità deve affrontare è incredibile.
