Il boss mafioso e' stato trasferito nella notte in Abruzzo con un volo militare Palermo-Pescara, per poi essere condotto in auto nell'istituto penitenziario del capoluogo abruzzese. Il carcere dell'Aquila e' una struttura di massima sicurezza che attualmente ospita il maggior numero di detenuti al 41bis. Gia' poche ore dopo l'arresto la procura di Palermo aveva chiesto l'applicazione del regime di carcere duro per Messina Denaro.
