il Piemonte respirò per l’edizione 2006 dei Giochi. Questa volta, però, lo sport spinge anche sulle relazioni internazionali tra territori, perché il capoluogo piemontese è stato chiamato a far rete con i titolari dei Giochi 2030, le Alpi Francesi. "La notizia che Torino sarà una delle sedi olimpiche, nello specifico quella per le gare di pattinaggio di velocità, è una grande notizia per il nostro territorio, perché ci permetterà di programmare un altro evento e un collegamento ulteriore tra il Piemonte e la regione del Rhône-Alpes", commenta infatti il presidente della Camera di Commercio, Dario Gallina. Le Olimpiadi invernali tra sei anni si terranno dall’1 al 17 febbraio e le Paralimpiadi dall'1 al 10 marzo. Nel candidarsi, la Francia ha proposto quattro aree di realizzazione dei giochi - Alta Savoia, Savoia, Briançon e Nizza - cinque villaggi olimpici affinché gli atleti siano lontani al massimo 30 minuti dai luoghi di gara e ha deciso di utilizzare al massimo gli impianti esistenti (per il 93% degli impianti) e di non costruire nuove strutture ma, se necessarie, di cercarle dove già esistono. Da qui la scelta dell’Oval di Torino per il pattinaggio di velocità. Una scelta orientata dalla determinazione della città e delle sue istituzioni.
